APA 7th edition is increasingly used in UK universities, particularly in social sciences, psychology, education, and health disciplines. It's similar to Harvard but with important differences.
Understanding APA 7th edition is important if your university requires it. Using Harvard referencing when APA is required will lose you marks.
Citing an author within your text:

Or: Social media affects anxiety (Smith, 2020).

Direct quotations:
Always include page numbers: "Social media affects anxiety" (Smith, 2020, p. 45).

Notice: In APA, only the first word of a title is capitalised (sentence case), unless the title is a proper noun. This's different from Harvard.
Sentence case for titles: Only the first word is capitalised in journal article titles. "Social media and anxiety" not "Social media and Anxiety."
Author-date format consistently: Always use (Author, Year) format.
Ampersand in references: Use & in the reference list: "Smith, J., & Anderson, P. (2020)." But use "and" in text: "Smith and Anderson (2020)."
DOIs preferred: Include DOIs when available.
Month and day for some sources: For newspaper articles, include the full date.
The way in which you present your findings will have a considerable impact on how your marker perceives the quality of your analysis, since a well-organised and clearly written results chapter makes it much easier for the reader to understand and evaluate your conclusions. For quantitative studies, it is conventional to present your findings in a structured sequence that moves from descriptive statistics through to the results of inferential tests, with clear tables and figures that summarise the key data in an accessible format. Qualitative researchers typically organise their findings around the themes or categories that emerged during analysis, using illustrative quotes from participants or examples from their data to support each thematic claim they make. Regardless of which approach you take, you should ensure that your results chapter presents your findings as objectively as possible, saving your interpretation and evaluation of those findings for the discussion chapter that follows.
Capitalising titles incorrectly: APA uses sentence case. Only the first word is capitalised. Don't capitalise every major word.
Inconsistent ampersand use: Use & in reference lists, "and" in text.
Missing DOIs: If available, include them.
Incorrect page number format: Use "pp. 123-145" for chapters. Use "p. 45" for single pages.
Author name inconsistencies: Be consistent with how you format author names. If you use initials in one reference, use initials in all.
Choose Harvard or APA before you start writing. Changing referencing systems halfway through is tedious. Use a referencing tool like Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote. These tools manage citations automatically and reduce errors .
Most : be consistent. Whichever system you use, apply it consistently throughout. Consistency matters.
