Challenges Faced During Short Film Production

This reflective text is about the experiences I had while creating a short film. In this regard, I will describe my learning experiences and analyze/interpret the mistakes, which I did and thus, expound on what I learnt.

Description of my experience

The actual shooting of my short film took place in different locations, and this posed as a problem, owing to the fact that I had to ensure the continuity of the film is right, yet I only had one opportunity of getting all the essential footages in all locations. This situation, which also affects art dissertation help, required careful planning to maintain consistency. Secondly, my short film had a lot of unnecessary background noise, which obviously could not be appealing to the eyes of viewers. This is a problem I made during my editing stage, although whatever the characters were speaking could easily be heard. Thirdly, I realized upon completion of the short film that I did not get the correct lighting for the film and as such, some scenes were somewhat dark but not too dark. Finally, the biggest challenge that I witness in the course of the film production is that I did not make significant planning for the shoot of shooting and editing of the short film. This is because I was somehow busy with my school projects, as well as my work schedule.

For the first problem, which I experienced with the different location shooting, I realized that I needed not to shoot in varied locations, being that I was still an amateur in filming. While I was getting the right footages, which I needed, I noted that I missed some footages, which were important for the short film. For the second problem of having unnecessary background noise, I learnt that I was not very keen while editing my film as I focused on other aspects and left important ones unattended to. For the third problem I faced, it I realized that I needed to adjust the color of my images and use artificial lighting. For the final problem I encountered, I realized that what brought forth the problem was that I did not have a proper planning for my short film as I was forced to work in a hurry whilst putting into consideration, some other projects I had in class and my working schedule.

What I have learnt

Considering my experiences, I learnt the following. On the first instance, the problem proved valuable, as I learnt that I need more practice, in order for me not to miss all the footages that I need while doing a film production. Secondly, I learnt that in order to remove unnecessary background noises in a film; I need to remove the background noises present in the sound track. Thirdly, in order to remove the darkness and to enhance the lighting in the film, I learnt that I need to brighten the images by use of the Adobe premiere effects. Finally, I learnt that filming needs sufficient time and I ought not to have hurried to complete the production while also focusing on other activities. Overall, the experiences I had made me learn a lot, which will be useful in my future productions.
