Psychological Science and Reproducible Research Practices in Improving the Quality of Research

Psychology is the science of dealing with mind and mental proves especially concerning human and animal behavior. On the other hand, psychological science is the accumulated body of physiological know-how- pertaining behavior, social and mental process, which have been generated via systemic application of scientific method (Schaller et al., 2013). This paper discusses the current state of psychological science and the role of reproducible research practice in improving the quality of research.

Though the application of scientific approach in studying behavior, social and mental phenomena has been in existence in the history of psychology, some current studies have questioned the applicability of experimental approaches to studying mental aspects (Zipf, 2013). Today, Psychological Sciences has been incorporated in higher education studies to provide knowledge and explain human relation and behavior. The field specializes in social psychology, cognition, developmental psychology, and measurement psychology.

Hatzenbuehler (2016), state that Psychological science applies scientific theories and methods from psychology to analyses experimental behavior and thoughts. Currently, the field has well-established literature including developmental, neuroscientific, correlational, descriptive motivational and industrial techniques. Norman & Eva (2010), indicate that psychological science can improve the diagnosis decisions and the field has been demonstrated to improve the diagnosis in a variety of areas. The current application of psychological science research can decrease the economic burden of disorders in society as people learn how to make informed choices that improve their wellbeing and health. Knowledge gained in the field is helping students with disabilities in learning as it has helped understand how children remember, learn and think.

Reproducibility is the ability of independent research to obtain similar results when repeating a test which is one of the hallmark of good science (Resnik & Shamoo, 2017). The gold standard for making a confirmation of results, reducing error and fraud is by replication. This has been proposed to be a way of increasing the reliability of research findings. Adopting the reproducible study practices speeds up scientific discovery, reduce research waste and enhance the exchange of ideas among researchers. Additionally, reproducible research practices help generate research papers with few errors. It is Evidence of correctness and new observations.

In conclusion, psychological science is the methods of collecting psychological studies via the use of scientific methods. Currently, this field of study has been integrated into higher education and has enhanced knowledge which is beneficial to humankind. On the other hand, reproducible research practices have helped in improving the quality of research by reducing error, fraud and confirming a study.
