Two aspects which significantly affect the chances of an individual getting their desired job in the contemporary job market; possessing adequate skills-set and having the right mind-set.

Skills-Set: There are some skills which are particularly valuable when it comes to working in a formal environment. The are as follows:

  • Communication : Effective communication skills need to be developed through working well with one’s team members, keeping cordial relations with people around you and maintaining a personality which allows people to honestly communicate.
  • Team Player: Every employee is a part of a team and to be a good employee, one needs to be able to be adaptable in a team and be able to work well with others. This includes both being a leader and a follower.

  • Trustworthiness: Intimately connected to the ideal of honesty, trustworthiness is more valued in the work space as the employer would look for an employee who can handle responsibilities and will be reliant. A good way to tangibly display that someone is trustworthy is through testaments by previous employers and seniors.
  • Flexibility: An employer needs to know that the person who is being employed is capable of understanding and adjust according to the needs of the organization. Even if someone doesn’t have the technical skills, they can acquire them if they are equipped with the right mindset.
  • Commitment: Ultimately, the employee must be committed to the organization they are working for. This can be done by developing a habit to committing oneself to goals by displaying skills in volunteering jobs, acquiring skills like learning new languages and having passions outside the work environment.

These are some of the skills-set and mind-set that employers look for and methods through which individuals could develop them and find good opportunities in the job market.
