Understanding Research Design Types

Research Design

There are many kinds of research design which can be followed by the researcher for conducting any research. Explanatory, exploratory and descriptive type of design which can be utilised by research for gathering valuable information related to the concerned topic of the research. Research design helps to follow a proper method which helps to provide structure to any research (Creswell and Poth, 2016). As per Bryman (2012), a research design offers a framework for the generation and analysis of data according to the researcher’s priorities. It determines the techniques to be adopted, while providing a description of how a research would be conducted. Reliability and validity of the research can be maintained properly by following proper research design. Moreover, in the upcoming research exploratory and explanatory type of design will be used for obtaining valuable information. Explanatory design helps to explain all the exploring aspects related to the subject of the research. In addition to this, it also provides information regarding the research questions (Meyers et al. 2016). The issue which was not researched in the past can be explored in a definite way by following an explanatory method. It helps to focus on every aspect of the study in detail.

In addition to this, operational definitions can be generated properly by following this method.

The exploratory design provides theoretical or hypothetical ideas to the research. On the other hand, explanatory design helps to connect different types of ideas for understanding the reason and effect of any situation. So it can be stated that, when a researcher starts to understand the reasons for the issue, these research designs help to elaborate on the cause and the impact properly. These research designs will be helpful for me to provide sufficient information about the research topic. It will also help me to follow a proper structure for gathering valuable information regarding the topic of my research. I can focus more on the research topic by following these research designs. In addition to this, all theoretical data will be elaborated by me in detail by following these research methods.

Methodology

This research will be done by following two different types of methods. So it can be stated that a mixed method of data collection will be used here to obtain maximum information regarding the topic of the research. Firstly, I will gather primary data by conducting surveys on a selected number of participants. For this process, I will prepare a questionnaire form where a bunch of questions will be prepared with some options. The primary data collection is hereby beneficial to gather the authentic feedback of the participants. Some demographic questions as well as Likert scale questions will be included in that questionnaire which helps to collect respondent’s feedback. These questionnaires will be distributed among a select number of participants for getting their answers. Before conducting the survey, I will give them ethical consent forms which will be helpful to maintain the ethics of the research. These consent forms need to be filled by each participant of the research. It will further help them to provide some information about the research and their queries regarding the survey can be solved by this. Moreover, the responses of the participants will be collected properly by analysing every detail of the answer sheet. Surveys will be helpful to gather a huge amount of primary information about the research topic. Apart from this, secondary research will also be gathered here for collecting valuable information about the topic of this research. Some previous articles, research papers and journals will be used for getting maximum secondary information about the issue (Chou, 2017). I will verify authenticity of all these journal articles and the provided data for gathering effective information of the research. Valuable data and correct information will be recorded by me for doing this research through reviewing the secondary sources. Existing information provided by other researchers will be focused properly for getting more details about the issue. It is not possible by a single researcher to add a lot of data to the research by conducting surveys or interviews. However, many data were previously discovered by other researchers who have sufficient information regarding the topic that can be used in this research to clarify the issues properly (Abdulkadiroğlu et al. 2017). So it can be stated that, secondary data will be helpful for me to provide maximum information regarding the topic of the research. So I will use secondary as well as primary data for conducting my study by following a proper method.

Primary research

Primary research provides a scope to gather authentic first-hand information which was not discovered previously by any researcher. First hand data can be found by conducting research (Sutherland, 2016). Though it is time taking and a lengthy procedure, but it helps to collect new data associated with the research topic. As the sample size is too large for conducting surveys, it helps to gather a lot of information regarding the topic. Lots of opinions can be obtained by conducting a survey on the participants. Numerical data and statistical information can be found by conducting primary researches. Moreover, statistical tests can be done by following primary research. It helps to gather a lot of information in a short time. In addition to this, primary research is done on a huge number of populations which helps to find relevant information. So quantitative analysis can be done here properly. I would like to apply statistical models such as SPSS, regression model and correlation coefficient to analyse the primary data collected through survey strategy. The large data can be analysed through the statically models and software where it is possible for me to evaluate the data. On the other hand, there is descriptive statistics which can also be utilised to describe the gathered data through the survey.

Research Methods

Secondary research

Secondary research helps me to gather different views of other authors on the same topic of the research. It is less time consuming because the research needs to collect data from existing journals and articles (Ripamonti et al. 2016). Different websites whose information is credible can also be used for gathering valuable information regarding the research topic. Moreover, it can be stated that, following secondary research helps me to save the valuable time of the researcher and time management becomes easy for the researcher. In addition to this, a lot of information which was previously discovered by the researcher can be found by conducting the secondary research. A thorough analysis can be done by following this research method. The secondary data will be analysed through documents evaluation as well as thematic analysis, where different themes are developed to evaluate the secondary information. I think that both of these types of research methods will be helpful for me to include sufficient information in my research. It will also help my research for becoming successful.

Challenges

The main challenge for me will be related to time management, and it can affect the overall findings of the research. Collecting valid data is another challenge for conducting this research program. Incentivising participants can be a major challenge for conducting the study efficiently. Apart from this, accessing individual data can become a major problem for the researcher (Harris, 2016). The data needs to be protected by the researcher, so maintaining the confidentiality of the research can be a major problem to this research and in the recent years it becomes difficult to maintain data security. So, if there is no valid information provided in these kinds of literature, then it can be harmful to the overall research. Along with that, the lack of proper information can be a major problem for this research where authenticity and relevancy of the data cannot be maintained well in the research. Proper approaches need to be taken by the researcher for fulfilling all the gaps in the existing research papers. In addition to this, the researcher needs to properly plan everything before starting the research project and it becomes time taken activity. It is essential to take help from the previous theories related to the concerned topic of the research. I think these are the basic challenges which can impact on my research report. On the other hand, the lack of time can also affect the overall research results of the study (Avella, 2016). It is essential for me to properly maintain all the steps of the research for providing valuable information to all the readers and conduct the study timely. Moreover, the correct application of different strategies will be helpful for me to reduce the limitations and solve the existing challenges within the path of the research. Proper verification of data needs to be done by me for providing valid information to all the readers. Moreover, I can apply different techniques which would be helpful for me to fulfil all the requirements of my study. Therefore, it can be stated that, all the above-mentioned challenges can be faced by any researcher while designing any projects and it would be helpful to mitigate the challenges by developing suitable planning to complete the research ethically.

Epistemological and ontological assumptions

According to the above discussion, it can be assumed that, these methods will be helpful to provide valuable information to the research (Langer, 2016). Philosophical data related to the study will be helpful to provide enough knowledge about the concerned topic of the research. On the other hand, the category is an entity within the reality that we can find out by applying improved methods and strategies. Both inductive and deductive types of approaches will be used for gathering valuable information for fulfilling all the objectives of the research. Moreover, quantitative and qualitative research will be done by the researcher for providing answers to all the research questions settled by the researcher. So I think that all the above-mentioned processes will be helpful together with important information regarding the concerned topic of the research. As per ontology, it is possible to identify the sort of things exist in the society. Through choosing interpretivism strategy and deductive approach it is possible to identify the social interactions and activities exist in the society. It also helps to gather valid data and real life experiences for conducting the research efficiently. Authentic data included in the study for elaborating every fact related to the topic. In addition to this, some variables which have an impact on the topic will be elaborated in the upcoming study. I think that enough information can be included in this research by applying modified techniques. In the epistemology assumption, the researcher is concerned about the nature of knowledge and ways of knowing and learning about social reality. Through the mixed research method, it is possible to collect a vast range of information and data for better understanding about the society. All the ethics will be maintained by the researcher properly, which will help to complete data collection and analysis in a systematic way. Proper justice and anonymity will be maintained binary search for ethical concerns.
