Impact of Action Films on Eating

Summary

People go to the cinema to watch different movies, but it appears that those that watch action movies tend to eat much more candy, popcorn and other snacks than those who watch other genre including comedy shows. Therefore I have theorised that people who watch action movies eat more snacks than those that watch other genre of films. Presumably, people who watch action movies are distracted and thus do not realise the amount they are consuming considering the nature of action films. In fact some action films can have distracting cinematic effects that cause the viewers to shift their concentration from the snacks to the screen.

Research Question

Does watching action films cause one to snack more? In this research question snacking refers to the act of eating popcorns, candy, biscuits and sweets.

Independent Variable

The IV here is watching films at the cinema and this includes watching action film like Avengers and any other non-action film like Shakespeare in Love. It can be controlled to changing the type of film.

Dependent Variable

The DR here is the act of eating snacks and this can be measured by looking at how many packets of snacks are consumed by the views. It is dependent on the type of movie watched by participants to determine the amount of snacks consumed.

Experiment

An experiment can be conducted to test the above hypothesis. In that experiment I could have ninety people go to the cinema and be divided into groups of thirty. The first 30 will watch the Avengers movie with packets of snack at their disposal, the second group will watch the same but without sound and the third group will watch Shakespeare in Love.
