Question 1

The research design described in this study is the experimental or semi-experimental research design because the company engaged in experiments for a period of 3months (approach) in order to get the findings that there were destinations favoured and those not favoured by the tourists/clients. The independent variables that will be used to assess popularity of the tour include the three which I felt like would be more relevant than other things. The first one is the ‘Nationality’ of a given group of tourists. The same will have effect on the popularity of the tour company because different nationalities have different utility levels. The second explanatory variable is the ‘period’ time of visit by a given group of tourist. This is because there are different things that change from time to time in given tourist destinations. This may be affected by the changes in whether and climatic conditions due to changes in seasons. Thirdly, the last independent variable would be the ‘Tourists expectations. In most cases tourist have different expectations if they are not met then their utility is not maximised any way that is no satisfaction was derived.

The dependent variable is ‘Popularity of the tourist destination (s)’. Question 4

The confound in this experimental design was the fact that after the elimination of the museum or the destination which was found to be unpopular there was a decline in the number of tourists to the tour. This enabled the competitors of the company to take over all their businesses which caused them to go bankrupt. The confound was not expected by the company because they did not consider the fact that they were dealing with the aged pensioners who identify mostly with the museum because the museum houses things that they can relate to. Even though they may not shows such interest in the museum the same is important to them courtesy of their age and the things they hold dear. These things may seem to be outdated but they relate to such things.

Question 5

Improving the instruments used in the experiment instead of having one question there should be more questions both open ended and closed questions in order to utilize on the views of the aged pensioner respondents.

Results and Discussion

The data used both for the rote-learning and the association learning had mean of 15.90 and 24.90 respectively. On the other hand the mode of the two variables was 15 and 24units. Finally, the two variables had medians of 16and 25. Further, the variability and reliability of the data used in the study was conducted and it was found that the Cronbach alpha coffins was at a high of 0.632. This shows that the reliability was greater than 0.5 approaching one (1) which shows greater level of reliability. The variability of the data used in the study was assessed by use of the standard deviation which was found to be 1.449, the variance at a high of 2.00. The t test statistic showed that there was statistically significant difference between the means of the ‘rote’ and the ‘word association’ learning. The test Sig. value was 0.000which is less that the critical value which is 0.05. The standard deviation for ‘rote’ was less than that of ‘word association’ that is 1.5 and 2.025respectively.

The graph above figure1 shows the distribution of the two types of learning methods used for the two groups under the experimental study. The graph shows that the brown bars were more significant that the blue bars. The same implies that the ‘rote’ learning method was not superior to the ‘word association’ learning methods. The large-brown bars shows that the second group was able to recall more words that their counter-parts in the ‘rote learning’ method.

The ‘rote’ learning procedures and simple and applicable in any specific situations. These methods or procedures can be applied to people r groups of all ages and backgrounds. It involves the repletion of words which creates or improves a lasting memory of the said words in the individual’s memory. This enables these individuals to be able to remember these words when they are asked for the same in the future. The ‘rote’ learning techniques can be used on the elderly and on the very young people. The same would also be easily applicable on recovering patients who are recuperating from brain injuries and other memory lose ailments. The ‘rote’ learning is more effective because the learners are only required to repeat continuously certain words. On the other hand the ‘word association’ procedure is relatively different from the ‘rote’ learning. The same is also not as effective because it is boring and lack motivation as learners are required to learn vocabularies and use the same to associate with other new words and make associations between these words to help them remember. The fact that it is not easy to be adopted by the learners makes it unpopular and so not very effective.

The shortcomings was the researcher used two groups in the study’s design. The confounds is that the students subjected to the strategy perceived as tiresome and unpopular (word association) were able to recall most words than those subjected to the ‘rote’ learning technique.

The researcher could have used one group and subject them to the two learning techniques and assess the ability to recall the word from the same group. This would have given better insight.
