Self-directed learning means a process that is counted upon for individuals to learn important lessons of life without the help of others. I have come across several thoughtful publications, which have been aligned over the past few years that talk about self-directed learning in the last 38 years of my life. It is one of the greatest opportunities to encourage self-directed learning for me. I would feel proud to introduce myself as Sugirtha Nivethan, a 38-year aged woman trying to accomplish life goals using self-directed learning. I would like to introduce myself as a candidate from Sri Lanka and I am residing inside London since 2010 after my marriage in the country. Self-directed learning is enabling the building of a bright future towards the positive change that it is going to bring in my life, especially as I seek education dissertation help. It is identified that a greater knowledge component helps people restrain from wasteful decision-making (Mentz, De Beer, & Bailey, 2019). Practical knowledge helps in better understanding the situation and changing the set of mind. In the United Kingdom, the job market is going downwards. Now without the ability to speak English, none of the organizations is going to send the hiring letter. Initially, I went through English courses as ESOL from the College of North West London. I found it helpful towards better development of my career and gaining knowledge on English language. Through all this tenure constant support from the partner is required and I have gained that in ups and downs. A positive contribution towards my family and kids through improving self-directed learning is quite engaging. As a student self-directed learning is important since it enables one to understand what the problem is exactly talking about and how it can be sorted.
My knowledge includes, Dance practical, Dance theory, Dance Studies, and sub practical (Miruthangam) back ground subject as science. Qualifications included being a trained teacher from July 2005 to June 2007.
In self-directed learning, a student needs to know that the "teacher acts as the mediator to teach the material and assess the student's knowledge (Pedler, Burgoyne, & Boydell, 2013)." I find it important to encourage self-directed studies so that diagnosing, choosing, and implementing appropriate learning strategies, formulating learning goals, identifying human and material resources for learning, and evaluating learning is possible through the learning process. Steps included in the learning can be explained as assessing readiness to learn and setting learning goals. My current issue to gain more knowledge and become adaptable towards changes to secure a good job position in UK. I also want myself to accept constructive feedbacks more generously (Johnson, 2019).
My self-directed knowledge includes learning more on my passion of Dancing. I have secured “certification in participation in Nadduvankam from Vavuniya Divisional Secretary. I have 1st Place Certificate in participation for muththamil vilza mandram Competition and I have 1st Place Certificate in participation for Zone Education Department south zone”.
The problems of SDL include quality of instruction, hidden costs, misuse of technology, and attitudes of instructors and administration. In my case, most of the time I encounter greater social anxiety, general anxiety, test anxiety, or even panic attacks. Family expectations or problems have also been observed as a threat here (Dowd, 2014). I am a successful candidate with excellent academic qualifications in field of Fine arts, backed with extensive experience and a proven track record. However, I have to focus on my learning as well as my family life which becomes an issue sometimes. Relationship difficulties are often coming in the pathways of developing a good learning attitude. Some personal challenge examples include volunteering myself for all situations and overcoming the fear of failure. In the case of self-directed learning, I sometimes do not get an idea what exactly I am supposed to learn and I find my time to be invested in waste in search of appropriate learning method. Many available choices of resource collection are confusing in my opinion and lack of governance of teachers is identified to be the topmost challenge in SDL (Leong, 2020).
The learning routine is usually varied since there needs to be a solid plan designed and monitored for reflecting and evaluating components. In my case, following time schedule sometimes is not possible. Utilizing odd hours for studies also help me in inconsistency management of the study items.
Finding items on my own helps in promoting the natural development of self-confidence and perseverance. The most essential skill to become a lifelong learner is to research and identify things on their own. In self-directed learning and research, I am given the freedom to choose the samples and continue the research. Mental and emotional wellbeing development is also channelized within self-directed learning. I can also self-advocate on what the research needs at this hour to facilitate learning. "Because students often try new things during self-directed learning, it promotes an environment of trial and error, failure, frustration, success, and achievement” and I completely believe in this statement (Barbee, 2012).
While 20% of the classroom timing is handed over to students they are identified to be listening less 20% to the adult talk and their linguistic skills are observed to be improved (Johnson, 2019). I have observed that with a constant learning, students purposefully manage the intended audiences and become more effective in modern communications. Resources are also readily available in the internet and I find that Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, able to work on own initiative or as an effective teams member is essential quality to be developed for research efficacy. I can reach out to experts by using social media and I am not usually ashamed of knowing the unknown facts form others. The importance of research can be explained in terms of utilizing my degrees of learning in GCE advanced level and GCE ordinary level of with maximum distinct grade. A good research helps in identifying jobs as well that is suitable to profile I am studying.
My presentation skills include presenting the dance form in extraordinary manner. Neat and clean performance with lessened errors is my priority. I have experience of tteaching of Bharathanadiyam for school syllabus, competition Examinations in school level and island level who are going to be sitting for NCOMS examinations in Srilanka. I also came across the teaching opportunity of Bharathanadiyam for OEBL examinations in UK and conducting Cultural shows and events.
Presentation is important since the innovative ideas generated by students come alive. Through making slides on their students learn on illustrative talk and creation of an important structure to help develop confidence. I have found out that presentations are one of the fantastic ways of practicing all language areas such as vocabulary and grammar. Speaking, reading, and listening skills interpret competency development and reinforcement (Barbee, 2012). I believe that all presentations need to be structured like a story that audience finds to be attractive.
In most cases, students find clear and straight communication to be a challenge for them. In my case also, the understanding of language and presenting all my thought becomes difficult sometimes. It is also essential for the students to understand the effective psychology of people to encourage communication components while giving presentations. In my opinion a good presentation allows the teachers to mark the student according to the individual’s performance criteria. In the case of a well-developed research, presentation matters. Be it any subject, I believe that presentation and strong allows students to score more. Communication is not just about getting the ideas across that is why it helps in moving forward with speaking to the audiences (Maruska, and Perry, 2013). I have found out that internet is identified to be one of the greatest resources to take help from. My observations include seeking help should be polite and formal from teachers, mentors, and fellow partners of studying to encourage better presentation development.
All of this research highly assists me in self-derived learning and means a lot towards practicing SDL. Self-directed learning is identified to be a core concept in adult education. Self-directed learning series support quality components within student learning. Effective learning sources such as the internet and peers help in developing effective learning factors. Reading and effective research components allow a person to standardize SDL methods and reference additional texts. To gain top marks in studying, self-motivation is important. It is important since it enables one to understand what the problem is exactly talking about. Thus the study helps in learning effective measures to promote self-efficacy and assessment with my own reflection on the self-directed learning issues.
