The question regarding advantage and disadvantage of year gap in education for travelling or working is chosen to be discussed because it is seen that many students face confusion in taking decision regarding the way a year break would affect their academics and further progression in career. This is because in many multi-national companies it is seen that students are avoided to be recruited if they have year gap during the academics as they consider it to be poor qualification (Csáfordi et al. 2018). However, in many companies, the year gap of the students is avoided to be considered as they look after the performance and skill of the individual in academics to be able to get recruited. Moreover, being a working mother it has become difficult for me to manage academics and work along with child responsibility at the same time. Thus, by exploring the question I can develop the knowledge regarding the pros and cons to be faced if I decide to take break for a year due to work and afterwards wish to continue my academics.

Young people are often found to be overburdened with academic responsibility and uncertainty regarding their future after completion of academics. Thus, in few universities around the world, the students are allowed to take a year break for travelling or work in between their final year of academics in the university. The key aim of the essay is to explore the way the decision is going to affect young individuals in their life. Thus, the advantages and disadvantages regarding the decision of year break in academics when allowed are to be discussed so that the young people are able to take proper decision whether or not they wish to take a break.

In Universities, that encourages students to take year break for studies in between final year for travelling or work creates advantage for the students to explore and determine what they actually wish to perform in the future. This is because during the break students while travelling or working comes in contact with varied practical experiences which they are unable to experience while studying in the confined classroom (Olsson et al. 2018). Thus, facing the real world making the young people develop additional knowledge apart from the books to determine what they actually wish to execute in life. As argued by Tavares et al. (2017), few students are found to be forced to learn in a confined environment in the classroom irrespective of their wish to execute it. In this case, a year break from the studies in between final year is advantageous to create mental relief for the young people. This is because it brings opportunity for them to develop and implicate their creative ideas to execute actions they wish to perform other than participating in academics to gain knowledge where their ideas are unable to be explored.

The year break in between final year when used for working or travelling has advantage for the young individuals to be able to improve their social and communication skills. This is because during travelling as well as in the workplace the young individuals are able to get access for interaction with diverse number of people who have different perspective and thoughts regarding life along with speak varied languages. In addition, the young people while working or travelling have opportunity to explore new places where they know none and have to use their presence of mind to gain confidence in controlling such situations (Zhao and Zhang, 2018). Thus, the advantage of taking academic break for year before final year in the university creates advantage for the young people to boost their confidence and develop greater tolerance regarding uncertainty.

The year gap from the university for working or travelling creates advantage for young people to broaden their horizons. This is because working or travelling helps young people to meet people from different cultures which offer them opportunity to see daily life challenges from a different aspect (Zarabi et al. 2019). The advantage of year gap is that it allows the students to have fun by getting break from the monotonous academic environment where grades are mainly judged to value a person (Venter and Kruger, 2017). Thus, year break creates opportunity for young people to break free from academic norms and customers to explore something new. The advantage of year gap in between final year of academics for young people is that it allows them to develop better understanding of theoretical knowledge learned in the academics. This is because in the gap while working or travelling the young people applies their theoretical knowledge to perform activities in the real world making them understand through analysis how the theories are developed and to what extent they are true in turn boosting their understanding of knowledge learned.

This aspect creates disadvantage for the students taking year gap by making them face hardship in further continuing the studies due to development of addiction towards substance use they fail to show proper performance in studies.

The above discussion informs that year break from studies in between final year for young people to travel or work creates advantages such as betterment of social communication, exploration of creative skills, ensure peace of mind, broaden horizon, develop creative thoughts and others. This is because they are able to break free from theoretical academic environment to real-world possibilities. The disadvantages of the condition are that many young people discontinue their further education, show less interest in performing well in academics and others. This is because break from studies makes the young people develop disengagement with academics and its restricted rules.
