The child safeguarding and welfare section in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) policy mention that childcare providers are to work according to the guidance of the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) (EYFS, 2017). The LSCB about child safeguarding mentions that childcare providers are to take effective legal actions to mitigate raised safeguarding condition regarding children in the event of the allegation been made against a staff involved in caring the child. Moreover, mobile phones and camera settings at the workplace is to be covered to judge the allegation and protect the child from harm or abuse (citizensadvice.org.uk, 2019). This aspect of the policy in the day to day working as childcarer at the workplace has impacted me to remain aware that I am under continuous surveillance and need to avoid making any unintentional or intentional harm or abuse to the child. This is because it would lead me to face legal punishment for violating care principles.

In the EYFS policy, the child safeguarding and welfare section mention that child minders are to be provided detailed training regarding the safeguarding principles to be followed in care. They are also to be informed about the way to determine possible signs of abuse and neglect of the children at the earliest to respond in timely and appropriate manner (EYFS, 2017; NicolaStobbs and Reed, 2017). This aspect of the policy has impacted me in every day purpose at the workplace being the childminder to have clarified ideas of the changed behaviour of the children, nature of deteriorated well-being, type of physical marks on the child and comments of the child to be considered to detect at the earliest that they are being abused. It has helped me to avoid being worried at the workplace regarding the way each day I could detect if a child is being abused or harm and arrange earliest care for them.

The child safeguarding welfare aspect of EYFS policy mentions that it is responsibility of the childminder at the workplace to report allegation of harm or abuse to the Childminding Agency or Ofsted. The abuse may be caused by any individual looking after or living with the child for caring in the premises or elsewhere. In case, the childminder fails to abide by the policy actions with no reasonable excuse is considered to have committed an offence (EYFS, 2017; Lead et al., 2020). This aspect of the policy has impacted me as childminder in my day-to-day practice to remain strictly aware in whistleblowing against any individuals who are responsible to cause harm or abuse to the child to avoid committing any offence. Moreover, it has impacted me to remain confident and hopeful of being active part in protecting children who are not under my direct care in my day-to-day working condition.

The child safeguarding and welfare aspect of the EYFS policy mentions that it is responsibility of the led practitioners in the childcare settings to provide support, advice and guidance to any childminder on everyday basis or for specific safeguarding issue regarding children (EYFS, 2017). This has impacted me as the child minder in everyday work to have access of support regarding the way skills gaps in care are to be resolved and enhanced quality care under complex condition is the be provided for protective care of the child. The child safeguarding and welfare aspect in EYFS mentions that a childminder would be disqualified to deliver care of they are found to be involved in any malpractices or is living in same household with an individual who has caused harm or abuse to any children (EYS, 2017; Elmer, 2016). This has impacted me as childminder in my everyday work to refrain from making any malpractices towards the children as it would disqualify my working ability as a childminder and face legal consequences.

The policy has led me to learn that effective prevention is one of the principles of safeguarding children from harm or abuse. It evident as EYFS policy mentions childminders to take effective action before the occurrence of harm by refraining from intentional or unintentional abusive active under the legal obligations of the workplace (Lumsden, 2018). The policy also led me to learn that protective actions are one the key principle to be followed in everyday work so that safeguarding of the children can be ensured. This is because protective actions help to aid children who are in greatest need to be saved from abuse or harm (northsomersetsafeguarding.co.uk, 2019). It is evident from the fact where EYFS policy mentions it is responsibility of the childminder to identify child under abuse by identifying their signs of abuse to be reported for care at the earliest (EYFS, 2017).

The EYFS policy has led me to learn that childminders are to work each day in partnership with the Ofsted and LSCB to safeguard the children from abuse. This is essential as partnership working in child safeguarding helps to share ideas and resources between agencies or professionals in different agencies to deliver utmost safe and quality care to the children (northsomersetsafeguarding.co.uk, 2019). The EYFS policy led me to learn that as childminder in everyday working purpose, I have to remain accountable towards my work and ensure transparency is maintained in practice. This is to avoid being disqualified from the responsibility of child care. It is essential as effective accountability at work assist the child carer to avoid making mistake that may cause harm to the child as well as remain transparent in whistleblowing against any staffs to holistically safeguard the children from harm (northsomersetsafeguarding.co.uk, 2019).

The discussion regarding EYFS policy led me to develop perception that apart from me being the childminder, it is required the people I live with also to have clear background with no report of child abuse as otherwise I would be disqualified to work in the field. It can also be concluded that prevention, protection, partnership and accountability are the key principles of safeguarding of the child to be followed at the workplace to deliver quality care to the children.
