The examination selected for this examination review is Biology. The revision sessions identified as notable include the first session on Monday between 08:00 to 08:45, the session on Sunday between 15:00 to 15:45 and between 17:00 to 17:45.
When revising, I will major on three main techniques, critical reading, point noting and use of audio visual aids such as YouTube tutorials and lectures. Critical reading is important in revision as it creates an environment of deeper thinking and analysis of the provided text and material. Critical reading will enable the questioning and creation of a deeper understanding and help prevent the notion of just cramming. Point noting, as a way of revision, enables activation of memory for important points and highlight revision points for later reference. Audio visual aids such as YouTube tutorials will help provide a more practical rather than theoretical view to the whole revision process. Even though the revision plan has been spread out evenly across the timetable attached, the three important sessions noted are highlighted above. For those seeking education dissertation help, these techniques can be particularly beneficial in enhancing the quality and depth of your dissertation work.
In the first session on Monday (08:00 to 08:45). I will mostly focus on identifying appropriate reading material including notes, school handouts, books and internet material including YouTube lectures which are relevant to the topics highlighted in the Assessment Criteria. In the first session I will also identify specific topics as set out in the Assessment Criteria markers for biology. In addition, I will also identify my strengths and weaknesses in this session so as to enable a comprehensive revision formula. This session will help me map out an outline of revision which will guide my reading and limit the reading to the relevant topics to avoid overreaching.
The next important revision session will be the one on Sunday between 16:00 to 16:45. In this session I will review all the short notes I wrote during my reading and listening sessions spanning throughout the week while referring to the assessment criteria to identify any information that might have been left out. The session will include alternating sessions of referral and meditation to identify what I have understood so far.
The last revision session on Sunday between 17:00 to 17:45, will focus on a reflection of past examination papers to create familiarity with the examination techniques.
My weakest part happens to be in the first question and for that reason Criteria 1.1, concerning the relationship between the structure of the parts of the heart and their functions, has been allocated more revision sessions as compared to the other assessment criteria.
To ensure coverage of all examination requirements, I have made the timetable to reflect individual assessment criteria. Each criterion has been allocated a specific day or period of focus except in the case where criteria 2.1 and 3.1 have been put in the same sessions since there is some relation between the two questions highlighted. I mostly plan to use handouts and class notes as well as YouTube videos.
I have established during revision that I am more of a visual learner. I rely more on what I see and that is why my revision technique consists majorly of critical reading, note taking and audio visual aids. As opposed to other types of learners, I do not have to engage in an activity physically to grasp concepts. As a reader, I mostly remember what I see rather than what I hear. That is the reason why I take mostly notes especially during my revision, even when I use audio visual aids, I have to jot down notes to enable me in memorization. As such, most of my learning technique is mostly theoretical and the use of audio-visual aids permits the access of practical learning of concepts.
An evaluation of how well I was prepared for and managed the demands of the particular examination chosen. (AC 3.1). I revised well for the previous exam and developed a proper understanding of the exam. The revision was effective as I evaluated more past papers and got familiar with the setting styles of the subject. During the exam, I answered questions from the first question in the paper to the last. The choice of the order made me answer all the questions step by step as I took time in understanding the questions in order to answer them properly. This procedure ensured that I did not pass any single question irrespective of its status of either being hard, moderate or easy. The order is always encouraged by lecturers due to easy marking and it helped me in ensuring all the questions are attended to. The examination was very challenging though I managed to finish on time. The order of answering questions made me spend more time on the challenging questions which I should have used to provide enough information on the less challenging ones. I was fully prepared for the exam though I got a bit nervous in the exam room which made me make some tremendous mistakes. Once I got nervous, I lacked the proper concentration which was needed in answering the questions effectively. The time I allocated each question was not sufficient since more time was consumed by the difficult questions which made me rush over to the last questions hence having minimal time with them.
In order to ensure the answers are correct, proofreading is a skill that I always employ once I have completed the exams. This occurs during the last 15 minutes of the exam where I verify all my answers before submitting. During the exam, I proofread my entire work but since I was nervous, I couldn’t recognize my mistakes. In an exam room, I always lack the proper concentration to effectively read my work and authenticate the data entered. I have since learned better ways of having maximum concentration during an exam in order to avoid mistakes in the future exams. Effective proofreading requires the reader to be active and have a high concentration in each question.
The overall performance in the entire paper was average. Though I had proper revision methods in place, I have realized my mistakes on the past exam and am working on them to better my performance. I believe that the results can be better than this since I have identified the areas for improvement. I was well prepared for the exams. In support of this, I made use of the online materials and electronic sources including YouTube. I was able to cover all the notes given in class and additional research from the library and other purchased textbooks. I had great confidence in myself as I approached the exams and I gave it my best. There is still room for improvement as with time, there will be a great improvement from the other results.
Some of the areas I can highlight for improvement includes being consistent in revision. I should adopt the culture of being ready for the exams at any time hence preventing the risk of cumulating a lot of work when the examination is announced. There is a need for being extra keen and focused on each question asked in the exam. Through this, there will be a better understanding of the questions hence proper and correct answers provided. Another area I have to work on is to control my stress during an exam. The nervousness results in me answering questions wrongly thereby leading to low performance. This can be solved by trying to compose me as much as possible during the exam. After the exam is completed, there is a need for more concentrations while proofreading the answers to ensure accurate answers are provided. Through proper analysis of the questions and answers provided, there will be an increase in performance.
